Angels of Peace Project

“Angels of Peace “ is a collection of songs inspired by the “Kabbalat Shabbat”, the service whereby we usher in the Sabbath Queen, the Holy Spirit.

The project was born of an offer made to me by my lifelong friend Gady Levy of the Streicker Center at Temple Emanuel NY, who asked me to write new music to prayers that I could perform with the cantor and an ensemble+choir, and also teach the audience to sing parts of the song with me.

I integrated the original Hebrew prayer with lyrics of my own in both English and Hebrew and wrote new music to it all. I was very deeply inspired in the creative process, which filled me with emotions, as it connected me deeply to my early years as a Yeshiva student, and to the tumultuous, bittersweet, profound and transformative journey of evolution I have been on all my life, in search of my own, unique Jewish identity.

The music and lyrics I wrote , arranged and produced by the gifted Ruslan Sirota, reflect my Yemenite/Israeli/American roots, as well as the east-west crossroads and stylistic fluidity which characterize much of my work. I have also instilled in the songs the values and ideals that are at the root of my 30 years of activism and the indefatigable quest for peace.
